We boarded the bus at around 8.30 to the National Chemistry Department. It was a boring ride as I didn't have any of my close friends around, just like on so many other occasions. It's a little weird though that my closest friends don't share the same interest in science as me yet we make very good companions.
When I reached there,I found out that it was actually the Open Day at the department. So,they also invited other schools to their open day based on timed slots. Some of my friends thought that it was great to visit the department at the same time as Mutiara International School (according to them, they girls were amazingly hot!)
The first amazing thing I saw was a machine to identify unknown metals. You have to put a sample in the machine and it looks for a similar density metal in it's memory to identify the element.I learned something important that day as I finally found out how they actually identify substances in television shows.
The other interesting part was the crime solving section. They showed how those CSI guys actually did their jobs.It looks a lot easier on television. One of the machines that caught my eye was the one which was used for identifying drugs. The person in charge actually allowed me to use it to get a hands on feeling of how it is to work in the lab.It was a really awesome trip but that day I assured myself that I'm less likely to be a chemist-physics is much more interesting.
Two days later,I joined a school trip to Taylor's University. We went to two of their campuses, the one in Subang Jaya and The Lakeside campus. The one in Subang Jaya was basically for pre-university studies such as the Cambridge A Levels and South Australian Matriculation. There, were given a talk about the South Australian Matriculation program that was highly recommended by the lecturers there because of its Australian learning style. To be honest,it sounded quite interesting at first but when I thought about it again,I felt that there were other better options.
After that talk,we went to the Lakeside campus. The view of the campus was breathtaking. It's called Lakeside because it has a lake inside the campus. It is built in such a way that the campus is always filled with streams of fast flowing air (wind). The architecture was good enough to wow me as I've not stepped into many universities before.
There was just one activity organised for us at that campus which was amazing race.We were told to get into groups and given a few questions to figure out the answers. To be honest, the questions were not that interesting but my group managed to have a great time asking around and making fun of people.
During lunch in the campus canteen,as I savoured my sweet sour chicken rice,I started to think of my own college life in the future.Future isn't as far as it sounds because I have to start looking for pre-university options next year.I'm growing up so fast,my days in school are numbered, but what can I do???Thinking of the future,I don't really have much time to fret. So now, it's really the time to enjoy to the max while I'm in school!
