I'm Finally Legal

After months and months of illegal driving, I finally managed to get my driving licence. Just to get the licence, I had to go through various processes for about 3 months. And it was pretty troublesome.

The first thing I had to do after registering in my driving school was to go for a 5-hour lecture on road rules. 5 hours sounded like a day when my driving school told me about it. Luckily for me, the speaker had a lot of jokes up his sleeves and I really enjoyed my 5 hours in the lecture hall.

The next step after the speech was to take a test on road rules. The purpose of the 5-hour speech was to provide some guidance for the test. But, as it sounds in the previous paragraph, the person giving the speech filled our heads with loads of crap. Anyway, the test was quite easy and I managed to pass.

After passing the test, I had to attend another 5-hour speech a week later. This time, it was really boring right from the start. This speech was supposed to brief us about driving. I was feeling sleepy during the speech and barely paid attention. Fortunately, my driving school decided to take us (students from my driving school) back (illegally) during the lunch break.

Finally, I could start my driving classes. The rule was that I could only take my driving test one month after attending the second 5-hour speech. So, I had to space out my classes. I had the first 2 classes far apart and cramped my remaining 3 classes during the last week.

I really liked the person who was my driving instructor for the first 2 classes. When I told him I could drive, he taught me everything that I needed to learn for the test during my first class. During the second class, he just asked me to take him around to his house and to pay his bills.

I had my remaining classes in the exam centre in Kapar. Well, I was doing pretty much the same things there. I learned a few extra things from an instructor who gave me a 20-minute lecture on driving during my third class. During my fifth class, there was a trial test and I passed it pretty easily.

Next up was the real thing-my driving test. I was feeling pretty ok before the test except for the hill section. I don't know why but I was just a little worried. I sat in the car and tried to calm myself down. I did everything slow and steady and managed to pass the hill test. Once that was over, I knew for sure that I was going to pass the remaining parts.

After the hill test was the parking and 3-point-turn tests. That was quite simple and I passed them easily. After I was done with those, I had to take the road test, where I had to drive on the main road. Again, I was just driving slowly-not exceeding 50 km/h- which was very unlike me. Again, I passed the test. The best part was that I didn't have to bribe any officers like how so many other people (I just call them lousy) had done.

To be honest, I don't think what is taught in driving classes is enough for new drivers to take the roads. The kind of parking taught during the driving classes just don't apply most of times in real life. And, they don't teach the students how to face emergencies on the road. Maybe, just maybe, its a trick so that the government officers can make more money through bribes and tickets. Whatever their motives, I'm just happy I can finally drive without any worries while on the road......

Post-SPM Celebration 2

Well, this outing wasn't actually planned for me. Just because it coincided with my SPM result week, my parents just declared the trip as my treat for my SPM results. I still don't take it that way as I didn't ask my parents for anything.

The trip to Genting was actually planned as a farewell for my cousin who was going back to India. She was born Indian, spent her school days in India, Maldives, Oman and Malaysia due to her mother's occupation as a teacher, and had completed her Year 11 and 12 of the IGCSE syllabus in the Global Indian International School in Brickfields.

She had been in Malaysia for 2 years and she hadn't really had the chance to go visiting due to the heavy syllabus. So, once her exams were over, my father suggested we take her out to Genting as she had not been there before. To top it off, the day we went there was also my aunt's (that cousin's mother's) birthday. It was pretty much a 3-in-1 trip.

I was supposed to drive to Genting as I already had my license but my mum was against it. My father was hesitant at first but decided to let me drive only to be let down again by my family members. They delayed, we left late and my dad said it would be better if he drove the car as he could drive faster on the winding roads leading to Genting Highlands.

We reached there around noon and headed straight to KFC for lunch. After lunch, my little cousin tried out a few games. My brother wanted to try other games but my father said it was not worth it. My brother didn't want to try the kiddy games. So, he got all sulked up during the discussion with my dad. And as usual, I just stood by listening and yawning away at their silliness.

My cousin who was leaving and my sister played some games and took pictures as they finished up their credits. And to their disappointment, the prize they won wasn't enough to redeem any gifts. I didn't try out any of the kiddy games as I wasn't really interested. I knew the best part still had to come.

After that, we took a ride on a cable car. The ride was amazing, especially during the beginning. Everyone was freaked out at the height of the cable car at the beginning. I was just awe-struck as I teased my brother who was terrified by the height. Honestly, it was an extraordinary ride. If you ever go the Genting, that's something you must try.

Next up was the theme park. Somehow, we managed to find our way there. My dad bought tickets for my cousin, sister, brother and me for the theme park. The others weren't really interested and they just decided to go have tea while we were inside.

Ever since I was young and knew that someplace with extreme rides called Genting Highlands existed, I've always wanted to go on a roller coaster ride. But before I could get to the roller coaster, my siblings wanted to try out another game. You had to sit in a huge teacup and you have to turn it while it is rotated on a surface. It was fun and made us all dizzy.

Well, my anxiety started to kick in as I looked for signs  of the roller coaster. On the way, we had to stop again as my cousin wanted to make a wax figure of her hand. She dipped her hand in a few solutions so that a casing formed. The casing was to be filled with wax and she had to come back after an hour to get it.

Finally, we reached the roller coaster ride. Unfortunately, it was closed until 5 p.m., which meant I had about 45 minutes to try other rides. I took this opportunity to try out another extreme ride. And little did I know how ecstatic this ride was going to be.

So, when it was finally my turn, I got on the machine with 11 others. After we took our seats, the machine slowly lifted us up to a few storeys high. At the maximum height, you could pretty much see the whole of Genting. As much as it seemed like a nice view, what was coming up next was just insane.

To put it in simple words, we were just left to fall down. The machine just zoomed down at break neck speed. I tried to scream but nothing other than air was coming out of my mouth. And just when it looked like we were going to crash, the machine stopped and pushed us slightly back up and it gradually stopped. The physics is simple-blow high pressure air in the beginning, a sudden release of pressure and then blow the air again to avoid crashing.

After that ride, finally it was time to get on the roller coaster. My sister and I went for it while my cousin was too scared and my brother was slightly shorter than the required height. Well, finally it was a dream come true and trust me, it was an awesome ride. The way we went side ways, up and down and the feeling of being thrown off the roller coaster was just fantastic. But, the best was still to come.

Well, it's pretty much a roller coaster but instead of sitting down, you'll actually be lying down while the roller coaster goes round and round. This was the best ride of the day because I was constantly put upside down and the feeling of being flung off the roller coaster was even more real. My cousin finally had the courage to try the game after I tricked her by saying that the ride wasn't scary. She had one hell of a time screaming during the ride.

We then went into the indoor theme park. We wanted to go to Snow World but it was closed due some maintenance work. My brother was really disappointed. When we wanted to try the bumper car, that's when we found out that my dad only bought tickets for the outdoor park. He made the right decision because we pretty much only had time to play the outdoor games and we had to get back home as my parents ad aunt were working the next day.

I really did enjoy the trip that day. I love challenges and the extreme rides were just the right tonic for me. I've always said that Cameron Highlands was better than Genting Highlands (which I still agree to) but that trip was nice for a change......

Post-SPM Celebration

After receiving our SPM results, my friends and I were hanging around our previous school to check out our graffiti masterpieces (Opps...secret spilled. I'll write a blog post about that and much more once the time is right). Then, all of a sudden, one of my friends suggested that we have a sleepover at his house.

I had missed both the previous sleepovers as my mum had objected deeming such activities as dangerous. This time, I wasn't planning to miss out. I had to convince her somehow. After lunch at a restaurant beside Aeon shopping complex with my friends, I headed home with high hopes.

My mum gave me a kiss on the cheek and congratulated me again on my good results. Then, slowly, I tried asking her about the sleepover. When she said no (as expected), I turned to my dad and after a little discussion, he agreed.

I hurriedly packed my stuff and had dinner as I had promised my friends that I would be in Eong Wei's house (his dad was going to send us for the sleepover, or that's what I thought) by 8.00 p.m. When I was about to leave, a couple of my mum's friends arrived at my house.

They were actually planning to visit my mum but since it coincided with my result day, they heard about the results and bought a cake for me. So, I had to cut the cake and feed every member of my family in recognition to my achievement.

After that 10 minute delay, I drove to Eong Wei's house with my father so that he could drive the car back home. When I reached there, I found out that another friend who was going to the sleepover was the one who would be driving us. And as it sounds, driving with friends just had to be fun.

Upon reaching, we kept our bags in the my friends room and settled down for pizza. For the record, 5 of us were going to sleep in his room and the space was just perfect. After pizza, we settled down playing FIFA 2011 and wrestling on my friend's Play Station in his room.

Since there were so many of us, we formed teams and played against each other. FIFA 2011 was totally fun. It was a whole new experience for me playing with another person on the same team. I found it amazing to be able to combine effectively to with another person to create opportunities and score goals.

The original plan was to stay up late until the Manchester City vs Chelsea match. Then, plans changed and we decided to sleep for a while and get up and then watch the match. I had a hard time waking up and my friends made fun of me when I finally woke up at 4 in the morning. They told me that I kept on telling them to wake me up a 4.30. Honestly, I didn't remember saying that to them at all.

All of us except one woke up eventually. I was feeling super sleepy. I was waiting for the half time break to get back to sleep. After enduring my scorching eyes begging for some sleep for 45 minutes, I headed straight for bed at half time. At the end, only 2 managed to watch the whole match with one actually sleeping during some parts of the match.

We woke up pretty late next morning, well it was late for me. Feeling uncomfortable waking up late, I was the first one to head into the bathroom to take a shower. One by one, we got ourselves cleaned up and we headed downstairs for breakfast. We actually planned to head out to the Bukit Raja Jusco for lunch as it was pretty late. But then, since my friends mum had cooked fried mee hoon for us, we didn't want to waste it.

After lunch, we walked to the shopping complex to watch a movie. I can't remember which movie we were planning to watch. But once we reached there, the movie's timing was bad and we decided to watch Hunger Games instead. We bought the tickets and decided to have lunch.

Having lunch was the most awesome part of the entire sleepover experience. One of my friends came up with a crazy plan. He suggested that instead of having lunch and then watching movie, why not for the first time we have lunch while watching movie. And his lunch suggestion was even more outrageous.

He suggested that we buy a whole cooked chicken and share it among friends. It was a crazy and amazing idea and that's what we always love to try. So, we decided to buy 2 whole chickens (roasted), soft drinks, paper plates and cups from Jusco's supermarket. We were so damn excited as we were pratically heading towards having a picnic in the cinema.

We hid our "picnic stuff" inside the plastic bags that we got so that they won't be detected by the people working at the cinema. After safely making our way to our seats, we started unpacking. We spread out the plates and cups, poured drinks in the cups and opened our lunch. The wonderful smell of chicken started filling the air.

I'm sure the other people  must have given that weird look at us as we passed the chicken bag among ourselves. As I was really hungry, I savoured every piece of chicken I ate. At the end, I had to finish the remaining pieces as the others were full.

The movie was awesome to watch. More importantly, we had loads of fun making jokes throughout the movie. We were laughing and laughing throughout the movie and even during the sad scenes. Some constantly asked us to keep it down by chanting "sshhhh" and "shut the f*** up" but that didn't stop us at all.

After the movie, we headed back to my friend's house and packed our stuff. Soon after, Eong Wei's father picked us up and he sent me back home. It was my first ever sleepover in a friend's house and I'm happy I had a finger-licking good time.......

P.S. The blogger wishes to thank his friends for the T-shirt they bought for him that day as a gift  for the 10A+ he achieved in SPM 2011
