Well, this outing wasn't actually planned for me. Just because it coincided with my SPM result week, my parents just declared the trip as my treat for my SPM results. I still don't take it that way as I didn't ask my parents for anything.
The trip to Genting was actually planned as a farewell for my cousin who was going back to India. She was born Indian, spent her school days in India, Maldives, Oman and Malaysia due to her mother's occupation as a teacher, and had completed her Year 11 and 12 of the IGCSE syllabus in the Global Indian International School in Brickfields.
She had been in Malaysia for 2 years and she hadn't really had the chance to go visiting due to the heavy syllabus. So, once her exams were over, my father suggested we take her out to Genting as she had not been there before. To top it off, the day we went there was also my aunt's (that cousin's mother's) birthday. It was pretty much a 3-in-1 trip.
I was supposed to drive to Genting as I already had my license but my mum was against it. My father was hesitant at first but decided to let me drive only to be let down again by my family members. They delayed, we left late and my dad said it would be better if he drove the car as he could drive faster on the winding roads leading to Genting Highlands.
We reached there around noon and headed straight to KFC for lunch. After lunch, my little cousin tried out a few games. My brother wanted to try other games but my father said it was not worth it. My brother didn't want to try the kiddy games. So, he got all sulked up during the discussion with my dad. And as usual, I just stood by listening and yawning away at their silliness.
My cousin who was leaving and my sister played some games and took pictures as they finished up their credits. And to their disappointment, the prize they won wasn't enough to redeem any gifts. I didn't try out any of the kiddy games as I wasn't really interested. I knew the best part still had to come.
After that, we took a ride on a cable car. The ride was amazing, especially during the beginning. Everyone was freaked out at the height of the cable car at the beginning. I was just awe-struck as I teased my brother who was terrified by the height. Honestly, it was an extraordinary ride. If you ever go the Genting, that's something you must try.
Next up was the theme park. Somehow, we managed to find our way there. My dad bought tickets for my cousin, sister, brother and me for the theme park. The others weren't really interested and they just decided to go have tea while we were inside.
Ever since I was young and knew that someplace with extreme rides called Genting Highlands existed, I've always wanted to go on a roller coaster ride. But before I could get to the roller coaster, my siblings wanted to try out another game. You had to sit in a huge teacup and you have to turn it while it is rotated on a surface. It was fun and made us all dizzy.
Well, my anxiety started to kick in as I looked for signs of the roller coaster. On the way, we had to stop again as my cousin wanted to make a wax figure of her hand. She dipped her hand in a few solutions so that a casing formed. The casing was to be filled with wax and she had to come back after an hour to get it.
Finally, we reached the roller coaster ride. Unfortunately, it was closed until 5 p.m., which meant I had about 45 minutes to try other rides. I took this opportunity to try out another extreme ride. And little did I know how ecstatic this ride was going to be.
So, when it was finally my turn, I got on the machine with 11 others. After we took our seats, the machine slowly lifted us up to a few storeys high. At the maximum height, you could pretty much see the whole of Genting. As much as it seemed like a nice view, what was coming up next was just insane.
To put it in simple words, we were just left to fall down. The machine just zoomed down at break neck speed. I tried to scream but nothing other than air was coming out of my mouth. And just when it looked like we were going to crash, the machine stopped and pushed us slightly back up and it gradually stopped. The physics is simple-blow high pressure air in the beginning, a sudden release of pressure and then blow the air again to avoid crashing.
After that ride, finally it was time to get on the roller coaster. My sister and I went for it while my cousin was too scared and my brother was slightly shorter than the required height. Well, finally it was a dream come true and trust me, it was an awesome ride. The way we went side ways, up and down and the feeling of being thrown off the roller coaster was just fantastic. But, the best was still to come.
Well, it's pretty much a roller coaster but instead of sitting down, you'll actually be lying down while the roller coaster goes round and round. This was the best ride of the day because I was constantly put upside down and the feeling of being flung off the roller coaster was even more real. My cousin finally had the courage to try the game after I tricked her by saying that the ride wasn't scary. She had one hell of a time screaming during the ride.
We then went into the indoor theme park. We wanted to go to Snow World but it was closed due some maintenance work. My brother was really disappointed. When we wanted to try the bumper car, that's when we found out that my dad only bought tickets for the outdoor park. He made the right decision because we pretty much only had time to play the outdoor games and we had to get back home as my parents ad aunt were working the next day.
I really did enjoy the trip that day. I love challenges and the extreme rides were just the right tonic for me. I've always said that Cameron Highlands was better than Genting Highlands (which I still agree to) but that trip was nice for a change......
